STAFF

Liz Falk.  Co-Founder and Director.  Liz has a background in environmental science and education and a master's degree in Natural Resources and Sustainable Development. Her interest in sustainable food peaked after working on two organic farms in Virginia and permaculture farms in Australia and Costa Rica. Liz has since applied her knowledge and experiences to small scale urban agriculture and to strengthening the local food movement in the Washington, DC region.  Liz received a certification in permaculture in October of 2006.  Liz is a passionate outdoor enthusiast and yogi. She values the connection people find to the land through growing their own food and believes that everybody, regardless of income, should have the choice to eat local, chemical free food.

Susan Ellsworth.  Co-Founder and Director. After four years of advocacy work and organizing around food security and international trade issues, Susan is quite happy to spend half her days in the garden, under the sun instead of in front of a computer. Susan has worked on several farms in Maryland and Washington State and is an avid proponent of local food production, particularly in urban areas.

John is an avid gardener and committed to empowering communities and individuals to have access to locally grown, affordable and sustainable food.

Abbey Piner.  Assistant Education Coordinator.  Abbey has worked for several years with homeless and low-income children and families as a teacher, an advocate, and a community liaison.  She has also done work helping build and sustain meaningful communities among people with disabilities.  She is currently studying the connections between education and community health through a Masters degree in Education Policy.  For Abbey, education programs focused on local communities and sustainability are at the heart of creating socially just opportunities. The staff of the 7th Street Garden are highly committed volunteers.  It is only through strong collaboration with community members, local organizations and dedicated garden volunteers that the 7th Street Garden is proud to be in the midst of a successful first season.  While there are many similar community food projects in cities accross the country, the 7th Street Garden is the only project of its kind in Washington, D.C.  The long-term success and sustainability of the Garden will depend on our ability to secure funding and/or receival of generous donations. Consider donating today through our fiscal sponsor's site: www.america-the-beautiful.org. Specify "7th Street Garden" in the comments box.
